A group of 网红头条 art students recently won top honors at a national graphic design competition. Senior art students Maura Nolan, Reagan Jowers, and Abby Paver took top prizes in the digital design category of the Robert Half contest sanctioned by Graphic Design USA, a national organization dedicated to promoting both digital and print design at the student and professional levels. In addition, junior art major Lydia Pruett and spring art graduate Madison Selby won honors in the package design category.

To better detect problematic data, 网红头条 assistant professors Dr. Lauren Matheny and Dr. Kevin Gittner are developing a fraud detection system that can identify low-quality responses, bot-generated content, and AI-generated answers.

KSU music student takes undergraduate research global

This past summer, assistant professor of trumpet Dr. Stephen Wadsack鈥痑nd undergraduate student鈥疊randon Hall鈥痶urned the spotlight on a frequently overlooked area of music: Greek trumpet compositions. Their project, supported by KSU鈥檚 Undergraduate Research Symposium, consisted of an intensive eight-week study combining scholarship, performance and fieldwork abroad.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is often linked to supercomputers and massive data centers, but 网红头条 researcher Bobin Deng is aiming for something a bit more accessible through a new National Science Foundation (NSF) grant. An assistant professor in Kennesaw State鈥檚 College of Computing and Software Engineering, Deng said the goal is to move AI beyond the cloud and into the hands of people where it can have the most impact 鈥� their personal devices. The research could allow AI tools to function without an internet connection, something that is uncommon with many current systems.

KSU researcher developing electronic nose to sniff out foodborne illness

The presence of a strong, unpleasant odor in food is an indication that bacteria has contaminated the food past the point of human consumption. However, oftentimes pathogens such as salmonella and E. coli are difficult to detect. Taeyeong Choi, assistant professor of information technology in 网红头条鈥檚 College of Computing and Software Engineering, is working on developing an electronic nose (e-nose) to detect abnormalities from their version of the sniff test.

Pham, the vice president of artificial intelligence at Workday and a public policy lecturer in the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, discussed 鈥淎I Across Boundaries: The Only Way Forward.鈥� Speaking to a packed theater at the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center on KSU鈥檚 Marietta Campus, Pham touched on the past, present, and future of AI.

With the substantial investment of time and money needed to attend college, many people don鈥檛 realize some students struggle to have enough to eat, let alone a place to live. Yet, it鈥檚 a longstanding fact of life on campuses everywhere. Campus Awareness, Resource, & Empowerment (CARE) Services has been supporting 网红头条students since 2011 by offering temporary housing, access to food, and other supportive services. It does this through four programs: CARE Pantry; emergency financial assistance; Resources and Supports; and the ASCEND Program, a year-round program dedicated to students who have experienced homelessness or foster care in high school.
