网红头条announces weekend closure related to winter storm

网红头条 will close its campuses starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, in response to the widespread winter storm predicted to bring ice-related road hazards and power outages to metro Atlanta and surrounding areas this weekend.

For the area of Kennesaw State鈥檚 campuses, freezing rain is expected overnight Saturday, which could make roads impassable and cause widespread power outages, according to the office in Peachtree City.

Emergency management officials at the university are keeping students, faculty and staff informed of all operations changes through email and text updates until the effects of the storm have passed.

鈥淜SU is closely monitoring the weather and will provide updates on campus operations through the KSU Emergency Email and Text Alert system and other KSU communication channels,鈥 officials said in an email sent to the campus community. 鈥淭o have the most up-to-date information from the National Weather Service, a decision about campus operations for Monday, Jan. 26, will not be made until Sunday, Jan. 25.鈥

Meanwhile, campus operations personnel have been preparing to salt sidewalks and respond to other issues such as power outages and burst water pipes.

Campus Services

While academic and administrative offices will not be operating during the closure, essential services and support resources will remain available, officials said. Campus Police and residence halls will be open and dining services will operate throughout the closure.

Campus Police

  • Campus police will continue to provide around-the-clock protection.

Housing and Residence Life

  • All Housing and Residence Life offices are closed on Saturday, Jan. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 25. Residence assistants are on-call to help with resident needs through the weekend.
  • Residence halls will remain open for students who are staying on campus. In the event of a sustained power outage, there will be no heat operational.
  • Emergency maintenance response will continue for urgent facilities concerns.

University Dining

  • The Commons and Stingers are open on Saturday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 25 from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.  
  • High Point Cafe will be open on Saturday, Jan. 24, from noon until 6 p.m. 
  • All retail locations are closed on Saturday, Jan. 24 through Sunday, Jan. 25

Parking and Transportation 

  • Due to expected ice accumulation, any students with vehicles parked on the top floors of the parking decks on either campus should move their vehicles to central floors. The top and bottom floors of all parking decks will be closed starting Friday, Jan. 23.
  • The Big Owl Bus shuttle service will modify operations on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Kennesaw/Marietta and Shopping Routes will operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shuttles will not run on Sunday, Jan. 25.

In response to the storm, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp , setting in motion preparations by state agencies and putting the National Guard on alert to assist affected areas if needed.
