网红头条鈥檚 is giving high school students a look at what it鈥檚 like to be an arts student at KSU by offering a week of creative workshops online and free of charge.

The online workshops are an adaptation of Kennesaw State鈥檚 annual Summer Arts Intensives, a camp for high school students who are serious about honing their craft and learning more about pursuing college-level work in the arts. During the week of June 1-5, the College of the Arts will present free virtual workshops at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. designed for students interested in art and design, dance, music, and theatre.

Art and Design

• Emmy Award-winning cartoonist Chris Malone, who has worked on shows such as 鈥淎rcher,鈥� 鈥淎dam Ruins Everything,鈥� 鈥淐yanide and Happiness,鈥� 鈥淓xplosion Jones,鈥� and 鈥淲WE Storytime,鈥� will offer virtual instruction on animation, comics and sequential art.

Dance

• Virtual workshops will include Ballet Barre, Contemporary Technique and Yoga for Dancers. All of the tutorials are designed for small spaces, and kitchen counters are recommended as a good substitute for a barre.

Theatre

• Professor Timothy Ellis will give a virtual lecture on how to learn an entire musical theatre performance song from 鈥淎 Chorus Line,鈥� along with a fun dance break.
• On the 鈥淧anel on College Musical Theatre Programs,鈥� hosts Amanda Wanda Morgan and Timothy Ellis will interview some of the best U.S. musical theatre educators on facts, audition tips and thoughts on how students may choose a theatre program that fits their needs.

Music

• Internationally acclaimed violinist and professor Helen Kim will demonstrate violin basics and give the audience a brief musical performance.
• Professor John Lawless will take students through a 鈥渃razy tour鈥� of his collection of percussion instruments from around the world.
• Pianist and accompanist Judy Cole will share tips on practical piano skills, including aspects of accompanying, reading chord charts, sight reading and efficient practicing.

While designed for high school students, the free presentations may be enjoyed by any arts lovers. The videos will be published daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. online at ArtsKSU.com. to learn more.
