ÍøºìÍ·Ìõsenior Kylie Burns decided to major in human services because she wanted a path into a career where she can make a difference. She got an opportunity to do just that this semester as part of a KSU grant-writing class in which she helped a local nonprofit organization win a $15,000 award from the United Way of Greater Atlanta through its SPARK Prize competition, designed to fund projects addressing social challenges throughout the Atlanta metro area.

Summer enrollment for graduate students at ÍøºìÍ·Ìõ increased more than 14 percent over last year, of which 6 percent are newly admitted and 24 percent are returning graduate students, according to data from the Graduate College. This increase represents the third consecutive year that enrollment in KSU’s graduate programs have grown. Over the past three years, including fall, spring and summer semesters, the University has experienced an average increase of 9 percent in graduate enrollment.

Jayla Ray is still a few weeks away from taking her first class, but her experience as a ÍøºìÍ·Ìõ student already is off to a great start. Ray, an incoming freshman from Locust Grove, won a $5,000 scholarship as part of the annual Declaration Days sponsored by collegiate licensing company Top of the World.

Their official ceremony may be postponed, but more than 3,500 ÍøºìÍ·Ìõ students are graduating this week. The May 2020 class of 3,512 graduate candidates – 2,893 undergraduate and 619 graduate students – marks an increase from last spring’s 3,400 graduates. The students are earning their degrees and receiving their diplomas after KSU transitioned to fully remote learning midway through the semester because of the coronavirus outbreak, which also caused the May Commencement ceremonies to be postponed.

The 24th annual Symposium of Student Scholars, hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research, was held virtually for the first time as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that students would not miss out on valuable experiential learning opportunities. The event is held each year to give undergraduate and graduate researchers from all disciplines at ÍøºìÍ·Ìõ the opportunity to present their work to a wider audience.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has approved a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Health Science for ÍøºìÍ·Ìõ’s Wellstar College of Health and Human Services.
