Applying for Financial Aid

If you are thinking about applying to a graduate program at KSU, you should complete the so that potential sources of financial aid can be identified for you. You should complete the FAFSA about the same time that you complete the Graduate Application for Admissions.

Types of Financial Aid

You must be fully accepted in order to qualify for any student financial aid. If you are accepted pending official documentation or provisionally/conditionally accepted, you will not qualify for financial aid.

Additionally, you must be in a degree seeking program to qualify for financial aid. Non-degree programs, such as certificate programs or teacher certification add-on programs, may not qualify for financial aid according to federal guidelines. For the most up to date information, check with the Office of Student Financial Aid.

  • There is a "window" of opportunity to apply for scholarships. That window usually opens around late November and closes in early March. KSU's Scholarship website includes a list of scholarships specifically for graduate students.

  • Graduate students are eligible for the following loan programs:

    Stafford unsubsidized for $20,500 for an academic year.

    Gradplus Loans offers an amount that is the cost of education less any other financial aid (loans, scholarships etc) that the student is receiving for the year/semester. Additionally, repayment begins when the student graduates or ceases half-time enrollment.

  •  (Volunteers in Service to America) members serve full-time for a year at nonprofit organizations or local government agencies to build the capacity of these organizations to carry out programs that alleviate poverty. After one-year of service VISTA qualify for the Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,000) to pay for a range of education expenses.
  • A Graduate Research Assistant works with a faculty member on a specific research project for a certain number of hours each week. In exchange, the GRA is granted a tuition fee waiver and provided a stipend. See the  for more details.
