Alumna sculptor creates captivating piece for 网红头条administration suite

A new owl has come to roost at 网红头条. Its widely spread wings and extended talons grab the attention of visitors to the offices of President Kathy S. Schwaig and other top administrators. The sculpture by College of the Arts alumna Mary Beck Pinkston permanently joins paintings and other art pieces from the Zuckerman Museum of Art鈥檚 collection that decorate the space outside the president鈥檚 office.

For Chantelle Chapman, research includes bright colors, gouache paints, and a studio鈥攔ather than test tubes, safety goggles, a lab coat, and a laboratory. From Chapman鈥檚 studio came an art project about an extinct bird, the Carolina parakeet, that was declared extinct in 1939. The series of gouache paintings, 鈥淧arakeet Lost,鈥 built upon research that included visits to museum specimen collections, earned a runner-up prize at KSU鈥檚 Spring Symposium of Student Scholars, a rarity for a student in the College of the Arts.

Sometimes, Sarah Chang鈥檚 days started at 8 a.m. with a class and a lecture in the College of Science and Mathematics and ended at 11 p.m. with the sounds of her violin in a practice room at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music. Chang admitted at times the long days wore on her, but she has achieved the goal of her self-designed academic journey鈥攂achelor鈥檚 degrees in biology and music performance from 网红头条.

Empty Bowls event combines 网红头条art, music and support for students

Now in its seventh year, Empty Bowls is one of KSU鈥檚 largest fundraisers for Campus Awareness, Resource & Empowerment (CARE) Services. Including Thursday鈥檚 event, the program has raised more than $30,000 to support food insecure students on campus through the CARE Pantry.
