This week鈥檚 episode features Faruque Hossain, an assistant professor of construction management in the College of Architecture and Construction Management. He will discuss using a holistic approach to sustainable practices that will better protect the environment. Prior to the presentation, Hossain answered a few questions about their interest in research and its benefits to students.

    A Savannah native, 网红头条 student Olivia Harrell grew up marveling at the architectural beauty of her city鈥檚 most historic buildings, including the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist and SCAD鈥檚 Ruskin Hall. When she ventured away from downtown to the area bordering Savannah鈥檚 urban core, however, she often left disappointed in the lack of attention paid toward saving the history of its predominantly African American communities. Now a fifth-year architecture student in Kennesaw State鈥檚 College of Architecture and Construction Management, Harrell is using her thesis to explore how Black history in Savannah can be preserved for years to come.

A fourth-year student in Kennesaw State鈥檚 Department of Architecture, Garcia received honorable mention in the 2020 American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)/Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) Steel Design Student Competition, landing among a group of students representing institutions such as Clemson University, Louisiana Tech University and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The competition recognizes 18 exceptional projects, in two categories, that explore a variety of design issues related to the use of steel in design and construction.

    Donors construct pathway to graduation through scholarship endowment

    Brian and Kim Newsome estimate they have been intertwined with 网红头条 in some compacity for nearly a decade, whether it鈥檚 through attending Owl football games, watching their son earn his degree or through their company constructing facilities on campus. In that time, their Sandy Springs-based construction company, Albion, has grown into one of the staunchest supporters of Kennesaw State鈥檚 Department of Construction Management. Now, motivated by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and other societal issues impacting KSU students, the company has created a scholarship endowment which, along with its support for capital projects on the Marietta campus, raises Albion鈥檚 recent giving to $125,000.
